Equality and Diversity Policy

Equality and Diversity Policy

Explains our commitment to fairness, inclusion and respect.

1. Commitment

The Ark Specialist College is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of its work. We believe that every learner, member of staff and stakeholder deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness and respect, regardless of any protected characteristic.

2. Legal Framework

This policy has regard to the Equality Act 2010 and the protected characteristics it defines: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. We comply with the Public Sector Equality Duty where applicable.

3. Our Approach

We take active steps to remove barriers to participation for all learners. Our curriculum is designed to be accessible, our environments are adapted to individual sensory and physical needs, and our admissions process does not discriminate. We regularly review our practice to identify and address any inequality.

4. Staff Responsibilities

All staff are required to model inclusive behaviour, challenge discrimination and treat every learner and colleague with equal respect. Equality and diversity training forms part of all staff inductions and annual refresher programmes.

5. Reporting Discrimination

Any learner, family member or member of staff who believes they have experienced or witnessed discrimination should report this to the Principal. Complaints will be investigated promptly and any necessary action taken in accordance with our Complaints Policy and, where relevant, our disciplinary procedures.
