Sets out how enquiries, referrals, assessments and placements are managed.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n

1. Purpose and Scope<\/h3>\r\n

This policy sets out the principles, criteria and process by which The Ark Specialist College considers and makes decisions about applications for places. It applies to all prospective learners and their families, to referrers including local authorities and professionals, and to all staff involved in the admissions process.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

2. Our Admissions Principle<\/h3>\r\n

The Ark will offer a place to any young person whose needs we are able to meet and for whom our provision represents an appropriate, proportionate and beneficial placement. We do not refuse places on the basis of the complexity of a young person’s needs where we are confident we can meet those needs safely and effectively.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

3. Eligibility Criteria<\/h3>\r\n

To be considered for a place at The Ark Specialist College, the young person must:<\/p>\r\n

    \r\n
  • Be aged 18 or over at the point of starting their placement<\/li>\r\n
  • Hold a current Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or be in the process of having one issued or transferred<\/li>\r\n
  • Have needs that fall within our areas of specialist expertise (autism, learning disabilities, communication difficulties, complex and multiple needs)<\/li>\r\n
  • Have a funding local authority that is prepared to commission and fund the placement<\/li>\r\n <\/ul>\r\n\r\n

    4. Admissions Process<\/h3>\r\n

    All admissions follow the process set out below. No placement will be confirmed until all stages have been satisfactorily completed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n

    5. Non-Discrimination<\/h3>\r\n

    The Ark Specialist College does not discriminate in its admissions decisions on the grounds of race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or maternity, disability (beyond our assessed ability to meet specific needs), or any other protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

    6. Waiting Lists<\/h3>\r\n

    Where the college is at full capacity, eligible applicants may be placed on a waiting list. Priority on the waiting list is determined by: urgency of need, date of enquiry, and proximity of the young person’s circumstances to current college capacity.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

    7. Appeals<\/h3>\r\n

    Where a place is refused, the applicant or their representative may request a formal review of the decision in writing within 20 working days of receiving the decision letter. Reviews are conducted by a senior member of staff not involved in the original decision. The outcome of a review will be communicated in writing within 15 working days.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

    8. Annual Review and Continuation<\/h3>\r\n

    All placements are subject to annual review through the EHCP process. Continuation of a placement is dependent on the young person’s needs remaining within our specialist provision and on funding being maintained by the commissioning local authority.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sets out how enquiries, referrals, assessments and placements are managed. 1.
